Could Mauritius be the lost continent of Atlantis?
Under the Indian Ocean, on the island of Mauritius, scientists have found evidence of a lost continent.
The continent, which geologists also call Mauritius, formed part of present-day Madagascar and India. It is speculated that, 84 million years ago, the continent sank beneath the sea. They are studying the geographical history of the continent to find clues.
Geologists are studying a mineral on the island, zircon, which is found in the rocks that formed from volcanic lava. Curiously, they found that this mineral was much older than the island of Mauritius. Even though rocks can be billions of years old, nothing that old exists in the oceans.
We are now finding an undiscovered continent that lies spread over the Indian Ocean. Could this be the lost continent of Atlantis?
